Each year, OCD Awareness Week (13–19 October 2025) shines a light on a condition that affects around 1 in 50 people in the UK. Despite being relatively common, Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (OCD) is still widely misunderstood. Many imagine it’s only about cleanliness or tidiness, but in reality, OCD can take many different forms, from intrusive thoughts to compulsive checking or repeating behaviours.
If you or your child experiences obsessive thoughts, rituals or habits that cause distress or interfere with daily life, know that there are effective, compassionate ways to help you regain control. One gentle and empowering approach is hypnotherapy for OCD.
What is OCD?
OCD is a condition where anxious thoughts and fears create powerful urges to perform certain actions or rituals. These rituals temporarily reduce anxiety, but the relief doesn’t last, which often strengthens the cycle of obsession and compulsion.
Over time, OCD can become exhausting, taking up hours each day and affecting confidence, relationships and emotional wellbeing.
Why consider hypnotherapy for OCD?
Clinical hypnotherapy works by calming the mind and accessing the subconscious patterns that drive obsessive or compulsive behaviour. Rather than focusing on surface-level habits, hypnotherapy helps gently reframe the underlying thought patterns.
During hypnosis, you enter a deeply relaxed but alert state, where your mind is more open to positive suggestion and new ways of thinking. Over a few sessions, many clients begin to:
Reduce the anxiety that fuels their OCD
Feel calmer and more in control of their reactions
Reconnect with a sense of inner peace and confidence
Respond differently to intrusive thoughts
As one client shared:
“Angela’s approach is a game changer. Her therapy sessions have put me back on track and given me strategies. Highly recommend her to others.” Zach
How hypnotherapy can support your journey
For some people, OCD has been part of their lives for years. Others may only recently have noticed patterns of intrusive thinking or ritualised behaviour. Wherever you are on that journey, hypnotherapy can complement other forms of support such as CBT, mindfulness or medical treatment.
In sessions with me as a clinical hypnotherapist, you’ll be in a calm, supportive environment to:
Identify the root causes of your anxiety and compulsive habits
Learn relaxation and self-hypnosis techniques to use at home
Build new, more balanced patterns of thought and behaviour
I offer face-to-face sessions in Solihull, London and personalised hypnotherapy recordings so you can continue your progress wherever you are in the world.
