Is Hypnosis OK for Children?

If you’ve ever wondered “Is hypnosis ok for children?” the short answer is yes, when carried out by a qualified clinical hypnotherapist, it’s safe, gentle, and can be remarkably effective.

As a clinical hypnotherapist for children and families, I work with young people across Solihull, London, and beyond, helping them manage anxiety, improve sleep, boost confidence, and cope with everyday challenges in calm, healthy ways.

Many parents come to me unsure what to expect, but quickly discover that children often respond to hypnosis even more easily than adults. Their imaginations are vivid, their minds are open, and they are naturally receptive to relaxation and suggestion which makes hypnotherapy an ideal tool to help them thrive.

What is hypnosis for children?

Hypnosis is a focused state of relaxation, a bit like daydreaming, where the mind becomes more open to positive ideas and calming suggestions.

In a hypnotherapy session for children, I guide them through gentle stories, visualisations, or breathing techniques designed to help them feel safe, confident, and relaxed. There’s no “mind control” or swinging watches, just an enjoyable, empowering process that helps children gain new coping tools for life.

Every session is tailored to your child’s needs and age. For younger children, sessions are often shorter and more playful; for teenagers, we might blend relaxation with mindset and confidence work.

What can child hypnosis help with?

Hypnotherapy can support children and teens with a wide range of emotional and behavioural challenges, including:

Is hypnosis safe for children?

Absolutely. When delivered by a qualified and experienced clinical hypnotherapist, hypnosis is a safe and evidence-based therapy.

Sessions are designed to be calming and supportive, never invasive. Parents are welcome to stay in the room, especially during early sessions, and I always make sure both parent and child feel completely at ease.

Many families also choose my personalised hypnotherapy recordings, which allow children to listen in their own time and space. These recordings are ideal for children under 12 or for families based further afield, and include a follow-up check-in to make sure the results are lasting.

How many sessions does a child usually need?

Every child is unique, but most see positive results after three to four sessions. Some children only need one or two, while others benefit from a short course of treatment.

We always begin with a relaxed consultation to understand what’s been happening and what your goals are, whether it’s feeling calmer, sleeping better, or building confidence.
